Indonesian Art Study Tour
The Australia Indonesia Art Forum was founded in 2018 by Australian/Indonesian art collector and advocate Konfir Kabo. Its aim is to strengthen cultural ties between Australia and Indonesia through a range of visual art activities including the annual art study tour.
The nine day tour visits museums and collections, commercial galleries, art spaces, collectives and artists' studios. Tour members meet curators and collectors and connect with leading artists and the new generation in Bali,
Bandung, Yogyakarta, Solo and Jakarta. It also offers opportunities to buy artwork, usually direct from the artists. Finally, the tour visits key art events including the annual Art Jog exhibition in Yogyakarta.
Materials are provided for tour members to learn about the broad outlines of Indonesian art history and the shaping factors on the contemporary art scene. There are daily lectures and talks, often given on the bus, and the tour includes several people with extensive knowledge available for specific sessions and advice.
