Tobias Richardson’s studio based practice is informed by travel, community and artist residencies. He incorporates autobiographical investigation expressed through the depiction of built environments. In 2015 he visited Krack in Yogyakarta and created a series of gouache paintings of haunted houses at the annual Sekaten night market. For This exhibition Krack worked with him to create a large scale recreation of one of those works.
• What emotions were collected throughout your scavenger hunt?
• Use Tobias Richardson’s artwork to discuss how built environments, like a Haunted House can both amuse and assault our emotions?
• Discuss how a curator can create a similar experience to a haunted house?
• What is the role of an exhibition space or gallery in evoking the feelings and messages intended by an artist?
